HBO buys television rights to "Let Me Robot You a Question"

It was announced today that HBO (Home Box Office), an American premium cable and satellite television network, has purchased the exclusive rights to turn "Let Me Robot You a Question" into a full budget television series.  It is expected to start airing in May 2015.

HBO is well known for successful original series like “The Sopranos” and most recently “Game of Thrones”.  Industry analysts are generally surprised and confused why HBO spent over 33 million dollars (rumoured) on the rights to "Let Me Robot You a Question", a little-known "choose your adventure" style story focusing on a small group of immature friends' inside jokes.  Michael Ferrenburg is the VP of HBO programming and had this to say, “HBO is very excited to finally announce this series.  It's true that this IP is not well known yet, but our focus groups suggest each episode should generate about 1.4 billion viewers internationally.  Incidentally, I am also told that our focus group results tend to be wrong 10% of the time, but I"ve only seen accurate results nine times in a row now, so I feel pretty good about it.”

Fans of "Let Me Robot You a Question" (or "LMRYAQ" for short, as it has come to be known by its small but dedicated cult following online) note that it only consists of six chapters total, that even generously speaking, only add up to about 20 minutes of screen time each.  Ferrenburg explains, “We plan to take each chapter and turn it into a season.  This will obviously require some expansion and elaboration.  For example, we think the transvestite character Wader deserves many dedicated episodes to fill in his or her backstory.  We can string that along for 20 episodes, easy."  HBO did express some concerns though that Anneveld may not complete the sixth chapter in time for the corresponding season's 2020 airing.

Even this white walker from "Game of Thrones" looks surprised about the news.

Fans are also worried that the high standards and artistic integrity of "Let Me Robot You a Question" will suffer.  Creator and author Anneveld tried to address those concerns, “I don't give a fuck what they do with it.  They gave me a lot of money and that's all that I care about.  You see, I have very particular tastes and habits... that are... costly… so I'll do whatever I have to do to make a quick buck.  Shit, if I can make spin-off series and sell them, you know I will.  "Let Me Robot You a Teenage Vampire" ought to appeal the kiddies, right?”

Ferrenburg from HBO revealed a few more details about how HBO will adapt the source material, “Well of course HBO viewers have certain expectations.  We don't like to disappoint, so you can expect a lot of hot robot-on-robot sex scenes.  We're also looking forward to lots of hard, shiny, metal titties.  Our special effects and makeup departments are looking forward to the challenge and raising the bar for mechanical erotica.”

Mr.Clark was reached for comment, “This deal with HBO has spawned a lot of interest from various networks in other USDN IP.  For example, we're very close to finalizing a deal with NBC to turn "The Girth" into a Thursday night sitcom.  Phro may also land a recurring role and skit on SNL called “Phro's Corner”.  Actually, that one just kind of makes a lot of sense.  Hmmm.  Anyway, I'd also love to see Kris Payne turned into a series of fourteen 3+ hour long feature length films, to be directed by Peter Jackson.  But that seems like a legal nightmare to pull off.”

HBO has not announced a head writer yet, but it is rumored that Aaron Sorkin (from “The West Wing” fame) is very interested in taking the helm.  It is also rumoured that Sean Connery will come out of retirement to play the lead role.  Production is expected to start later this year.
